In Lake, DuPage, Will and McHenry Counties the parties are required to attend a parenting class. This requirement can occasionally be waived. The parenting class is normally a one or two day seminar that is designed to educate parents on ways to avoid putting their children in the middle of the dissolution process. Attorneys are bound to shelter children from much of the acrimony that can exist in any domestic relations proceedings.
